What incredible progress at our Albert Park renova

What incredible progress at our Albert Park renovation for @finnis_architects we have made! The second bedroom and hallway roof have been lowered to create what will be a stunning rooftop deck. The hip roof has been cut back to a gable and valuable storage space created within. 20m2 of @jameshardieau Scyon structural sheet flooring has been laid so the floor and ceiling underneath will be water-resistant and structurally secure for a lifetime. It is an infinitely useful and reliable product. The gable front is also clad with their 9mm cement sheet.

We have been working through Christmas and January under what has become known as the "tarp mahal", while our 2 @stormtechdrains are custom made in Sydney. The guys at @ireland_tiling_melbourne and @premier_caulking will do their magic very soon and finally we can expose the new floor to Mother Nature, whatever she brings.

There is more renovation work happening with our trafficable glass roof and first floor bedroom extension. More to unveil!

I'm on leave for 3 weeks so my wonderful client Debra will take over as project manager to keep things moving. She is truly a delight to work with.

December 30 = tools down after a couple of towel rail installations and some smooch time with cherished Hermione in St Kilda East.

2024 will be 20 years since I started my carpentry

2024 will be 20 years since I started my carpentry apprenticeship after changing from my career as a Policy Adviser in the Victorian Bracks Government.

Programs like @women.onsite are an excellent resource for females wanting to get a start in building and construction.

A tribute. Our dad, (papa), turned 100 on Novembe

A tribute.

Our dad, (papa), turned 100 on November 15. What a remarkable achievement considering his arduous start in life. He joined the Romanian Air Force as an apprentice aircraft technician at the age of 15 and trained with his RAF colleagues in Germany during WW2. When Romania switched it's allegience to the allied forces, his group were taken as prisoners of war by the German military, and he spent 9 months in a labour camp at the age of 21.
Thankfully, he survived, and made his way to Australia in 1950 where he met my mum at the Geelong Lawn Tennis Club and dedicated his life to his family and his local community.

This last 12 months has been particularly difficult with our mum dying on Christmas Day and papa having to adjust to getting through each day after their 62 years of marriage. ln March he broke his hip from a bad fall and struggled to manage through surgery and a long stint of rehabilitation, to learn to walk again and regain the physical capabilities to return home. However, having a close-knit family, faith and especially the delight of a new great grandson Hunter, motivated him to push forward, and we are so inspired by his monumental physical and emotional efforts.

Papa is full of love and affection, for roses and his favourite color pink. He is a man who was happy to take his young daughters for a stroll in a pram in the 1960's, so mum could have some time for herself and to carry flowers on the bus home from work each night for her just to show his love. He used to lament having 4 daughters would send him broke having to pay for all the weddings, but this somehow sorted itself out ☺️.

Great progress at our Hughesdale project where the original floor frame was under span and warping due to poor drainage and ventilation. GTS Reblocking are diligently levelling the sub floor of the four front rooms and hallway, installing new framework and concrete stumps. As expected in a double brick period home, room levels all conflict with each other, yet we will bring them together day by day to connect in a lifetime of harmony and structural stability.

Our renovation for @finnis_architects in Albert Park starts today!

How lovely are the windows and stucco, plus the original brickwork of course.

Our St Kilda East renovation for @leahlloydsmith i

Our St Kilda East renovation for @leahlloydsmith is now complete! The rear half of this gorgeous Californian bungalow has been given a transformative upgrade.

A structural roof alteration to remove a dividing brick wall allowed a small bedroom to be made more spacious and include new wardrobes and a study nook. The new bathroom includes a generous shower over bath and delightful @tilecloud tiles.

The floor in the rear studio was rebuilt and raised to be flush with the existing jarrah sills and new Tasmanian Oak flooring laid. A sizeable double glazed window lets endless light through. Stucco was added externally to match the existing house.

The laundry was fitted with new cabinetry and wall tiles to provide a much more useful space.

There is an abundance of natural light now and it feels wonderful!

Our remarkable bathroom renovation in Parkville wa

Our remarkable bathroom renovation in Parkville was completed today! A new terrazzo floor was laid, a concrete slab formed where the original bath used to sit and a whole new life given to this beautiful art-deco apartment.

This demolition uncovered a Pandora's box of surprises and complications, more so than on any other renovation, and l owe endless thanks to our tenacious and talented trades who delivered something very special.

Friday at our St Kilda East renovation and Saturday morning at our Parkville bathroom project - caulking, nail punching and some pre-caulking painting. A handful of days until handover. I always feel melancholy at this time of wrapping up and saying goodbye.
